Writing Well and Living Well for Living Well VillageStudents used the PARD approach to service learning (Preparation, Action, Reflection, and Demonstration). To prepare, we held class meetings to discuss centers addressing community needs. We narrowed it down to a nonprofit community camp for kids. After calling the camp’s founder, we discussed the best way to meet the needs of the camp. After another class meeting, students took action. They wrote persuasive business letters to local businesses. They wanted to increase awareness of the camp’s contribution to the community and to ask for help. After the project, they reflected through class meetings, creating mandalas, journaling, and writing “Thank You” notes. Finally, they demonstrated through sharing with the media and creating a display board for the Service Learning Show Case.
